Enterprise Architecture & Integration for the Construction Industry

Large construction projects are characterized by complexity: numerous participants, heterogeneous system landscapes and long project durations. Data is generated along the entire project lifecycle - from planning and production through to implementation on the construction site.

A leading manufacturer of formwork and scaffolding systems was faced with the challenge of making this data usable across all systems - as a basis for better decisions, more efficient processes and greater transparency.

The challenge

  • Fragmented system landscape (custom ERP, SAP, CRM, project management)
  • Lack of integration between central applications
  • Inconsistent data along the project lifecycle
  • Low transparency of projects, resources and key figures
  • Unclear governance for modern low-code developments

The aim was to create a scalable architecture that connects data and applications while being able to react flexibly to future requirements.

The solution approach

The focus was on the development of a holistic Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) and data architecture, supplemented by clear governance structures:

Establish data governance Definition of rules, responsibilities and standards for consistent and high-quality data.

Design enterprise integration Design an integration architecture that reliably connects existing systems and standardizes data flows.

Define low-code governance Structured use of the Power Platform to avoid uncontrolled growth and ensure scalability.

Establish lifecycle management Conception of a sustainable operating model for the development, deployment and operation of applications.

Control implementation Support and coordination of the technical implementation in close coordination with IT and specialist departments.

The technical implementation and lifecycle management were realized within the EFEXCON Group by KIINNO AG.

The solution: Integrated Enterprise Architecture

The result is a powerful architecture that:

  • Consolidates data from different systems
  • enables end-to-end processes across system boundaries
  • creates a stable basis for analytics and data-driven decisions
  • remains flexible and expandable at the same time

Added value for the customer

End-to-end transparency Centralized view of projects, resources and key figures.

Consistent database Reliable data as a basis for decisions.

Efficient processes Reduction of media disruptions and manual reconciliations.

Controlled innovation Structured use of low-code technologies.

Future-proof architecture Scalable basis for further digitalization steps.

Results at a glance

  • Established data governance
  • Enterprise integration architecture implemented
  • Integration of previously isolated systems (custom ERP, SAP, CRM, PM)
  • Rolled out low-code governance for the Power Platform
  • Established lifecycle management for applications

Conclusion

Complex construction projects require more than powerful individual systems - they need an integrated architecture that connects data, processes and applications.

This success story shows how the combination of a clear strategy, enterprise architecture and structured implementation creates a sustainable basis for digital transformation.
